Shirdi, a village in Western India, gave Sai Baba the name of Sai. Whilst he had gone to attend a marriage party he was greeted as 'Yavo Sai' meaning Welcome Sai. Lovingly called Baba by his devotees, it was in Shirdi that Sai Baba spent a major part of his life till the end.
There is a fire here, which has been burning since the days of Sai Baba and continues to do so even today. He took 'Samadhi' (renouncing of mortal coil voluntarily) on 15th October 1918 which was also Dussehra day.
